Frequently asked questions
Can we provide our own alcohol?
Yes! That is exactly how The Liquid Pony works. You provide the alcohol and we do the rest. You avoid the high cost of catering and venue markups on alcohol because it is supplied by you. We have eliminated the, "if we open the bottle (even for one drink), you have to pay for the entire thing," because anything you don't use, you get to keep. We can provide menus, shopping lists and always help you with the garnishes and mixers if you need it!
But, if your venue or caterer requires you to purchase alcohol from them and use their bartenders, The Liquid Pony can still be a part of your special event. We offer rentals where we simply drop off the bar and your team takes care of the rest.
What are the payment terms?
We require $500 deposit when you sign your contract, the balance is due 7-10 days in advance of your event. Deposits are non refundable. in the event of a cancellation.
Gratuities are not included in the price (it is optional but appreciated).
Deposit Due Upon Booking $500 (which will be applied to total invoice.). The Liquid Pony accepts, CASH, MC/VISA, AMEX,
VENMO, PAYPAL and CHECKS (Please note that there will be a 3% up charge for credit cards or PayPal)
Final Payment is due seven (7) days prior to event date.
All deposits are NON REFUNDABLE in the event of a cancellation.
How many bartenders will I need for my event?
One bartender can effectively handle 50-75 guests - depending on drink menu, type of event and length of bar service. We recommend a bar back for events with 60+ guests and an additional bartender for those expecting over 100. We want your guests to be enjoying the festivities, not waiting in a line at the bar.
Do you need a liquor license?
Not to serve (for free) at a wedding or special event. We just can’t SELL you the alcohol, nor can we SELL it to your guests.
There are exceptions . . .
Non-profit organizations can apply for a temporary liquor license when they host a fund raiser. The Liquid Pony is covered to sell liquor to guests under these circumstances because the profits are are going to the charity.
When you see the Liquid Pony at a block/street party – we are usually in front of a bar/restaurant or establishment that already has a liquor license. They can apply for an extension of permit which allows us to sell alcoholic beverages as long as we are within close proximity to the establishment.
How do I calculate how much liquor to purchase?
A good rule of thumb is to calculate using 2 drinks per person per hour.
100 people x 2 drinks per hour = 200 drinks per hour
200 drinks x 4 hours = 800 drinks total
Now you’ll have to do some guess work. Out of the 100 guests, what percentage of them prefer beer? What percentage of them are wine drinkers, and who likes the hard stuff?
800 x 30% beer drinkers = 240 beers
So you’ll need to purchase 240 cans or bottles or ½ barrel keg and ¼ barrel keg, or 3 ¼ barrel kegs.
800 x 50% drink liquor = 400 servings of spirits
A standard 750ml bottle of liquor serves 16 drinks so you’ll need 25 bottles of booze.
And you’ll still need to figure out what types of alcohol to serve (vodka, rum, bourbon, tequila, etc).
800 x 20% prefer wine = 160 glasses of wine
A standard 750ml bottle of wine serves 6 glasses, so you’ll need 27 bottles of wine.
And don’t forget that you’ll still need to guess on red or white.
